The Middle Way as a DJ Set — The Mythic Version

  • They say that when Gautama wandered through the forests searching for liberation, his mind was like a DJ trying to mix on decks wildly out of tune.
  • Too much austerity — the gain clipping.
  • Too much indulgence — the signal drowning in noise.
  • One evening, exhausted, he heard a musician on a boat tuning his lute.
  • The master told his student:
  • “If the string is too tight, it breaks.
  • If it’s too loose, it won’t play.
  • Only the perfectly balanced tension gives true sound.”
  • To Gautama, it was like hearing the perfect crossfade after a night of distorted transitions.
  • Suddenly, everything aligned.
  • The universe snapped into clean phase.
  • He realized that enlightenment isn’t found by pushing life into distortion,
  • nor by lowering the fader until nothing is left.
  • It’s the middle frequency,
  • the sweet spot where the mind resonates,
  • the EQ curve where the bass, mids and highs breathe together.

  • He took nourishment, regained his energy, and sat beneath the Bodhi Tree like
  • a DJ settling into the long set that changes everything.

  • As dawn rose, the last star faded like the final LED on a mixer.

  • In that silence, he heard it:
  • The world vibrating in perfect tune.
  • No tension.
  • No slack.

  • Just the pure tone of reality, unconditioned, unmixed, self-existing.

  • That is how the Buddha understood the Middle Way:
  • a universe tuned like the perfect string, sounding the track of awakening.
